This is the story of  the flutes I made for the orchestra of the Opera in Madrid. Weeks of work, shortened to a few pictures with comment.

Of course you cannot show or even tell everything you do or think or feel when making the flutes. Every moment on this route is as important as another.

 

 

The 1st flutists first trial in the atelier in Alkmaar Riopalisander it will be. There goes a piece that layed for 50 years.The blocks for two flutes with their first bore.
                                                                                                                   
 
 
 When flutists come from far to try your flutes you must realize the efforts they make. So I try to make them feel home. And the most important: to make sure they will find a rich flute garden with many different flowers in bright colours.


One head is already recognizable. The base of the keywork must be fitting exactly and be hihgly strong and stable. After weeks of work here are the ordered heads and feet.
 


 
And their main corps. The cups are ready. And the rest of the keys. All finished here and fitting on the flute.
 


     

 

Then the action has to be perfect and of course the keys must close fully with the lightest pressure.

The flutes are ready. I played them enough. The wood is already giving more of its beauty in tone and colour and the keywork and pads are stable.

I like to bring them myself. Mozarts Magic Flute is already announced here at the back of the Opera in Madrid..
